I’m a self-taught photographer, always learning and just in love with the art.
There are many opinions about what makes a person’s photography “good”, and when I see any general negative comment online about photographers without formal training, I think “that’s probably about me.” I just internalize all the negative.
I had a baby a few months ago, and I’ve chosen to primarily be a stay-at-home mom and do professional photography as a side job. I haven’t taken a job since she was born, and I was starting to get really self-concious about my work.
Then, the other day, a friend gave me some (much needed) encouragement about my work, without knowing beforehand that I was really needing to hear it.
It made me wonder how many other people need to just hear encouragement but don’t let people see their insecurities. I have been making more of an effort to tell people when I like their work, think they look nice, or when I think they’ve done something great. You never know who needs to hear it.
