Last year, I discovered Breakaway, the National Organization for Alternative Breakers. They help out groups of university students who volunteer their free time doing issue area-related community service. Since joining the movement, I’ve learned so much about life, love, and service from the people I’ve had the opportunity of meeting. Most importantly I’ve realized that everyone, no matter how small, has the potential to change the world. One day, I hope to inspire more people to give back to their communitites and become active citizens.
The photo was taken on-site in North Carolina, where we worked to help rebuild the houses of community members in Pamlico County who were affected by Hurricane Irene. That’s me on the left!
